Resumen
Error Analysis is a strategy proposed by Stephen Pit Corder in 1967, used in the teaching -
learning process of English as a Foreign Language (EFL); this methodology is mainly based on
identifying errors that students make when they perform the incorrect application of the EFL
which is learned, in order to categorize them and describe the causes why these errors are made;
these are transcendental for the reconstruction of educational processes, since the difficulties of
the learners are identified and errors can be corrected. For the implementation of this
methodology, the present research had as a general objective: to analyze the syntactic errors that
were presented by interference of Spanish (L1) in English written production (EFL) of students
from third semester in the Bachelor Degree in Foreign Languages with Emphasis in English from
Unidad Central del Valle del Cauca in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
In order to carry out this study and collect the necessary information, three questionnaires of
open questions were resolved by the 31 students who were part of the corpus of this analysis;
Also, only three of the four phases of the EA were developed, since only the causes of the errors
were identified, categorized and described, leaving out the last phase corresponding to the
correction of these errors. Thus, this analysis recorded the most frequent error this population
presented, in which, it was recorded that the most frequent error in the descriptive category of
analysis was Errors of Selection, while the least identified was Errors of Ordering; In the same
way, in the linguistic category, the most frequent error was Preposition and the least frequent
was Conjunction. At the same time, interference was described as the reason why students tend
to involve their mother tongue (L1) when writing in the foreign language (EFL), since it was
identified that students tend to make analogies based on the known structures of their L1 and
confusing them with the rules of the EFL. The importance of this study is based mainly on the
results obtained through the analysis, since they represent a starting point for new research to
