Abstract
This work derives from one of the constant arising problems in the English subject,
which is the difficulty fifth graders feel and express when trying to communicate in
this language. Accordingly, some techniques are proposed used by the teacher in
class, which will achieve a strengthening in the student's listening comprehension
skill. Thus, the Direct Method is recognized as an alternative to achieve this purpose,
and has been implemented by several authors in this project. Also, questions are
asked: “How to develop listening skills in fifth graders at “Del Niño Jesus” Elementary
School through the Direct Method” And “What strategies are the most appropriate
for the Direct Method in teaching listening skills in fifth grade students at “Del Niño
Jesus” Elementary School”; In order to solve these questions it is proposed the goal
of Strengthening Listening Comprehension in English as a foreign language for fifth
graders Elementary school at the Direct Method through implementation. This is
done through the development process: introduction, practice and application,
accompanied by the technique proposed by Underwood: pre-listening, whilelistening
and post - listening.
The proposed techniques were developed in the target population, through a period
of four (4) months, time in which it began with a diagnosis, followed by the
implementation and its later evaluation, using an international validated test, with
satisfactory results, which show that by applying the proposed techniques students can strengthen and improve different communication skills mainly by listening
comprehension.
