| dc.description.abstract | El fear of missing out (FOMO) o miedo a perderse algo, es un fenómeno psicológico que ha cobrado relevancia
en la era digital, especialmente entre los jóvenes y adultos jóvenes que se desenvuelven en un entorno
altamente conectado a través de las redes sociales y la tecnología. La omnipresencia de la información en línea
y la necesidad constante de estar al tanto de lo que sucede en el ciberespacio han generado un interés creciente
en comprender los factores psicológicos que subyacen a la experiencia del FOMO y sus implicaciones en la
salud mental y emocional de las personas (Przybylski et al., 2013).
La presente investigación tiene como objetivo principal analizar los factores psicológicos asociados al
síndrome de FOMO en una muestra específica: los estudiantes del programa de la Unidad Central del Valle
del Cauca en el año 2023. Este enfoque se justifica por la importancia de comprender cómo esta población,
inmersa en un contexto académico y tecnológico, experimenta y lidia con el temor a perderse algo en el entorno
universitario y social actual (Elphinston & Noller, 2011).
El estudio del FOMO en el ámbito educativo cobra relevancia al considerar que los estudiantes universitarios
son una población vulnerable a experimentar este síndrome debido a la presión académica, la competencia
social y las demandas constantes de estar conectados a través de dispositivos electrónicos. Además, diversos
estudios han identificado una relación significativa entre el FOMO y variables como la ansiedad, la autoestima
y la satisfacción con la vida, lo que subraya la importancia de investigar a fondo este fenómeno en contextos
específicos y con muestras particulares (Alt, 2016; Przybylski et al., 2013).
Mediante un enfoque multidisciplinario que combina la psicología social, la psicología educativa y la
tecnología, esta investigación busca contribuir al conocimiento científico sobre el FOMO y sus implicaciones
en la salud mental de los estudiantes universitarios. Al analizar y conocer los factores psicológicos que influyen
en la experiencia del miedo a perderse algo, se espera no solo identificar posibles estrategias de intervención
y prevención, sino también sensibilizar a la comunidad académica sobre la importancia de promover un uso
saludable de la tecnología y las redes sociales en el ámbito universitario (Przybylski et al., 2013; Alt, 2016). | spa |

| dc.description.abstractenglish | The fear of missing out (FOMO) is a psychological phenomenon that has gained relevance
in the digital age, especially among youth and young adults who operate in an environment
highly connected through social media and technology. The omnipresence of online information
and the constant need to be aware of what is happening in cyberspace have generated a growing interest
in understanding the psychological factors underlying the experience of FOMO and its implications for
mental and emotional health of people (Przybylski et al., 2013).
The main objective of this research is to analyze the psychological factors associated with
FOMO syndrome in a specific sample: students of the Central Valley Unit program
of Cauca in the year 2023. This approach is justified by the importance of understanding how this population,
